Prox'N'Roll PC/SC HSP Getting Started Guide

Prox'N'Roll PC/SC HSPOverview

These instructions will guide you through installing the proper driver and exploring the available software for a successful start using your Prox’N’Roll PC/SC HSP.

This guide focuses on Windows-related driver and software.

And for Android, please click here.

Before you begin

Springcard aims at making contactless devices simple to use. Even so you will win time by reading this guide before plugging the coupling device to your computer.

If needed, this is the link to the Prox'N'Roll PC/SC HSP’s page to get up-to-date information regarding it.

You can also watch this overview video.

Download and Install the Driver

Click on this link to download the driver and launch the download setup file to install the driver (you then need the administrative privileges on the computer).

Tip for network administrators: the driver setup could run unattended with the /SILENT command line flag.

Download and Install QuickStart

The QuickStart for PC/SC package:

Click on this link and launch the download setup file to install the software.

Plug the Coupler into a USB port

Plug the coupling device into one of the computer’s USB ports.

Wait 10 to 120 seconds until Windows activates the driver and enables the coupling device. This time period is only for the first time you plug the coupling device into the computer. Afterwards, the coupling device will be activated in a couple of seconds.

Keep an eye on the device: the Prox’N’Roll PC/SC HSP blinks yellow until it has been enabled by the computer. As soon as the cyan light enters a smooth “breath” sequence, the coupling device is ready!

Verify everything is OK

At this step, SpringCard PC/SC Diagnostic application is needed. As it is included in the QuickStart package, it has already been download. You just need to search it by using the Windows start menu and launch it.

The application shows all the PC/SC couplers connected to the system. Verify that one of them is SpringCard Prox’N’Roll Contactless.

Then put a compliant contactless card, NFC tag or RFID label onto the Prox’N’Roll PC/SC HSP. It makes sounds and lights green. The PC/SC Diagnostic application shows the card’s Answer To Reset (ATR) identification string.

Your Prox’N’Roll PC/SC HSP is now ready to play with!

Configure your coupling device

The Prox’N’Roll PC/SC HSP’s default configuration allows to work with all supported contactless cards in the most seamless and efficient way.

Yet it is also configurable for a large part to adjust its behaviour.
In order to do so, MultiConf, a free software provided by Springcard is required. Click here to download.

It is simple to use but we made video to help you to use it :

Troubleshooting

Important

This device uses inductive coupling to communicate with the contactless cards. Never place it on a metal surface or near a conductive surface or in the vicinity of another electronic device!

The Prox’N’Roll PC/SC HSP keeps on blinking yellow

The driver has not been installed correctly. Unplug the device and try to install the driver again.
Plug the device directly to the computer - do not use a USB hub.

The Prox’N’Roll PC/SC HSP doesn’t 'see' my contactless card

Verify that the contactless card is in the product’s compliance list (ISO 14443 or ISO 15693 protocol, or explicitly listed).
Verify that the contactless card’s form factor and analog characteristics are compliant with ISO 14443-1 and -2.

The Prox’N’Roll PC/SC HSP 'sees' my contactless card but behaves randomly

Verify that the contactless card’s form factor and analog characteristics are compliant with ISO 14443-1 and -2.
Use MultiConf application to force the coupling device to communicate with the card at the lowest bitrate.

It is not a Prox'N'Roll PC/SC HSP but a Prox'N'Roll RFID Scanner HSP

Springcard sells two devices having the same shell. If the computer does not ask for a driver, if the device lightens cyan instead of lightening blue, and if the device is identified as a keyboard, then you have in hands a Prox'N'Roll RFID Scanner HSP instead of a Prox'N'Roll PC/SC HSP.
But it is a little problem because it is easy to change the firmware and switch the device's mode. Then do as described below:

Download (follow this link) and install our software named F.U.U.
Launch it.
On the bottom right, find and click on the button 'Use Wizard'.
Choose the device you want to get.
Answer Next and Flash. The firware is changed.

For developers' & integrators' eyes only

As every PC/SC coupling devices at SpringCard, the Prox’N’Roll PC/SC HSP is supported by Windows’ PC/SC stack and by PCSC-Lite, an open-source project, on Linux, Mac OS X and other UNIX systems.

If you are not familiar with PC/SC, you will find a good introduction here.

Moreover, you will find here free of charge SpringCard’s comprehensive SDK -including many contactless-card related samples-. Choose SDK for PC/SC.
